Can you cure vitiligo?

Once the diagnosis of vitiligo has been made, your doctor may want to check you for thyroid disease, and for other autoimmune conditions that are more common than usual in people with vitiligo. Vitiligo occasionally goes away by itself, and some treatments may slow its progress, but a cure cannot be guaranteed.

What is vitiligo universalis?

Extensive generalized vitiligo may leave only a few normally pigmented macules, a form of the disease referred to as “vitiligo universalis“. The segmental type, which is uncommon, is characterized by one of several macules on one hand or one side of the body.

How does a person get vitiligo?

Vitiligo may be an autoimmune disease. These diseases happen when your immune system mistakenly attacks some part of your own body. In vitiligo, the immune system may destroy the melanocytes in the skin. It is also possible that one or more genes may make a person more likely to get the disorder.

Can vitiligo kill you?

vitiligo-3

The pigment that gives your skin its normal colour is melanin, which is made by cells known as melanocytes. The cause of vitiligo is not yet fully known but many think that it is a disease in which the body makes antibodies to its own melanocytes, and in doing so destroys them.

Introduction to Vitiligo

Vitiligo, also known as Leucoderma is a skin disorder where it loses its normal coloration and is characterized by white patches of unpigmented skin. Normal color of the skin is due to melanin pigments. In Vitiligo, the skin starts losing its pigmentation in patches and becomes colorless. Usually Vitiligo is progressive in nature. These unpigmented patches are either single or multiple. Most of the cases don’t have any symptoms. It has got more of social importance than medical.

Causes of Vitiligo

vitiligo-1

Exact causes of Vitiligo are unknown. It is an auto-immune disorder. Hereditary factors play some role in this disorder. Anyone can develop this condition irrespective of age, sex, race, socio-economic status etc. It is not a contagious disease.

Treatment of Vitiligo

White patches of Vitiligo for its treatment usually takes a long time. Conventional system of medicine treats this condition by steroid applications, which rarely help in chronic Leucoderma.

Homeopathy has very encouraging results in Leucoderma. Acquired white spots like due to burns or injuries are also treated successfully. The duration and success of treatment depends on extend of the patches and the duration of the illness. Big patches require more days whereas small spots yield faster. Treating Leucoderma is a long process and may require one year or even more to cure it completely. Homeopathic treatment not only stops new white patches, but also causes repigmentation of old patches. After starting the treatment the first desired effect is that the skin starts becoming pink, turns brown thereafter and starts re-pigmenting slowly. As homeopathy treats it from within, when the treatment is completed satisfactorily, it is unlikely that the patches reappear again. Moreover all homeopathic medicines are safe, natural, easy to administer and without any adverse effects. If you have any specific question about your condition, you can write us in comment.
